Class Community

Hug, Handshake, High-Five

Each morning when you arrive at school, you have an important choice to make: will you give Mrs. B. a hug, handshake, or high-five? The choice is up to you, my friends. I want you to decide how you will greet me in the morning so that you always feel welcome and important in our class. I really enjoy this activity and I am sure you will too!

Helping Hands

Every two weeks you will be responsible for completing a job in our classroom so that we are certain to keep our room clean and organized. This way, we all help one another to make our learning space a comfortable place for everyone.

Friday Feel-Goods

In our class, every student has special talents. Some children are great at math, while others may need more practice. You may be a fabulous speller but may need to work hard at becoming a better reader. These differences make our class a wonderful place to learn because we all can add our talents to help others. Friday Feel Goods give you time to write friendly letters to your friends. These wonderful letters help our classmates feel special and valued.

Star Student

You are special every week but during your "star" week you are especially special! This week will be the week of your birthday. Unless, however, your birthday is during the summer or during the same week as another student. Don't worry, everyone will have a chance to shine in our class. Each day you will be responsible for sharing something with the class:

Monday: Bring in a favorite book for read aloud time.

Tuesday: Tell the class a joke.

Wednesday: Estimation Jar. Please fill a container with candies, toys, or objects from a collection that you own. Your friends will estimate how many items are in the container. (Be sure to write the exact number of items someone safe so we can check our guesses!)

Thursday: Read a letter to you, written by your parents.

Friday: Share a birthday treat, if you choose. Friday afternoon is also the special time for you to share your Me, Myself, and I Poster. During this time I invite you to share special collection or teach your friends a skill you knowl!

Learn About Your Teacher

I have been a teacher at Ormondale for six years (this is my seventh year) and I cannot imagine working in a more wonderful place than in our school! You and I have a lot in common. Like you, I am a student. You teach ME everyday, so in many ways YOU are MY teacher. Last year, I set a goal to complete a special program called a Master's Degree to learn more about how to best teach children to love reading. This year you will also be setting goals for yourself and trying your best to accomplish your dreams. Relax, I am here to help you become the best student you can be!

I am a very busy lady with many interests. I love to explore new hiking trails and spend time exercising. Many people become surprised when they learn that I am a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do. This martial art has taught me to be a focused and dedicated person. Like many athletes, after a tough workout I crave yummy foods! I especially enjoy tasting food from different countries so I can learn more about the various cultures that live in our community. I also love to bake sweet treats for others to enjoy! In addition to these interests, spending time with my friends and family is an important part of my life. I am thankful to know that many special people fill me up with lots of love each day.Now that you know a little more about me, I can hardly wait to learn about your lives!

Parent Volunteer Information

Thank you for volunteering in our classroom. In order for your time with the children to be most effective, please arrive five minutes early to peruse the contents of your "activity box" and ask any questions that arise before beginning your center or activity. During your time with the children, please feel free to invite a student to "take a break" and visit with me! This work time is structured to be productive and I will gladly handle discipline issues that you, as a parent volunteer, may feel uneasy about. After completing your project with students, please arrange the center and materials as you found them. This will help the next parent find the directions, samples, and materials needed for a successful center time.
