Technology Plan To Become Integrated Into District Strategic Plan

As we move into the final year of our existing 5-Year Technology Plan we are pleased to report that virtually all of the objectives have been achieved.  Our schools have a reliable network, our students and teachers are using technology regularly to produce projects and products that showcase learning and enhance academic understanding, and our staff is growing in technological competence.  But, we will not be "resting on our laurels."  According to Moore's Law, technology innovation doubles every 18 months.  And the Portola Valley School District will need to take a long-range view and make infrastructure choices designed to keep up this staggering pace.  Inherent in the upcoming Strategic Planning Process is the need to provide a technological framework for program advancement and student academic achievement that is curriuclum driven.  The development of a new 5-Year Technology Plan will be a strand within the greater scope of district strategic planning.  Overarching curricular goals enumerated in the proposed Strategic Plan will drive how and where technology will be integrated and impact the current K-8 Scope and Sequence of Technology Skills.  Look for a new 3- to 5-year Technology Plan and Scope and Sequence to evolve throughout the 2005-06 school year with tentative publication in the autumn of 2006.

Increased DVD Capabilities Assured with the Upgrading of Corte Madera Lab

Corte Madera computer Lab 103 received an "Extreme Makeover" last summer.  The addition of 26 new eMacs equiped with DVD-CD super drives, 1.42 GHz processors, a Gig of RAM, and an OS X operating system will allow teachers and students to perfect their multi-media projects using iMovie, iTunes, and iPhoto and save them to DVD.

These new additions replace iMacs that have been transported to Ormondale and are now being used as upgrades to that school's computer lab.
